First shut-out of the season for
the Cornhusker. The Blackshirt(defense)
played an outstanding game in giving
the Golden Bears the goose egg.
Our secondary played an almost
perfect game. A lot of balls were batted
away or intercepted. Everybody
was key-in on their assignment thus, enabling us to put their QB on the
turf numerous time. Nebraska was on the board during the 1st quarter.
Backup QB, Eric Crouch, had another outstanding game - MVP two weeks in
a row. He threw for one TD, ran in one TD, and caught one TD, a feat
that, until now, hasn't been repeated since Johnny Rodgers did it in the
early 70's. No major injuries to the Huskers. An area of concern
is the production numbers from the I-backs. Two game into the season
and our running backs are not churning out the yardage that we are accustomed
to. Granted that the California Golden Bears' defence(returning 7
starters from last season) are rated one of the best in the PAC-10, we
still should be able to run it up the gut and create some big plays.
A big part of our offensive scheme is set up and geared towards the run.
1st string QB, Bobby Newcomb, needs to work on th option game a little
more. It's imperative that he needs to get the timing and the rhythm
of the pitch down. All in all, an excellent game.
