The Game....(Played on 9/18/99)

                 Southern Mississippi     at   Nebraska
                          13                                       20

Phew...., all I can say is that it's finally over!  This one is a nail biter especially in the last 2 minutes of the game.  Before even playing a
down, we all knew that this will be the toughest opponent yet that the
Huskers face up to this point in the season.  Their defense truly live up
to its billing.  Once again our offense sputtered and went limp.  This
continue to be a major concern to all of us in Husker's land and left the
offensive line coaches scratching their head come Monday morning.  What
does it take to jump start the offensive line?  If they need viagra, by all
means give them viagra.  If they need ginseng tea, let them drink by the
gallon.  If they need yohimbe root, grab that 'cangkul' and start digging.
We cannot afford to let the defense carry the offense game after game.  We
had only 8 first down throughout the game, one of the lowest in 31 years of
Husker's football.  If the defense did not score the 2 TD's for us, there
could be a lot of gloomy people in downtown Lincoln last Saturday night.
Thank Allah for the Blackshirts, the sun came out the next day.  Now for
the nail biter.....  Nebraska was leading 20-13.  Two minutes left on the
game clock and Southern Mississippi had possession.  They were knocking on our end zone.  With a touchdown they could tie the game up or heaven forbid, win it outright with a succesful 2 point conversion.  Nebraska perfect season could be in jeopardy.  On 2nd and long, their QB threw a pass towards the end zone and it was caught!, yes it was caught on the 1 yard line by Keyuo Craver, our sophomore cornerback. It's an interception at the 1 and ran back to the 6 with 1:17 left in the game; everybody can breath a sigh of relief.  Yes?  You would like to think so, but hang on to your shorts folks.  It ain't over yet, there's more to come. 1st and 10 on Nebraska 6 yard line. 77 sec left on the game clock. Nebraska had possession.  All the QB have to do is to take a knee. Nebraska lined up at the line of scrimmage with that formation in mind. Snap was taken, Eric Crouch have the ball and in in the words of one of the fan in the stand and I quote,"Holy Shit! he fumbled".  Enough said.  Yes, Nebraska fumbled the ball on the 1 yard line.  Luckily for the Huskers, the QB recovered his own fumble.  Everybody can now start breathing again. Nebraska ran out the clock in the next play.   Everybody can now exit the stadium and head on downtown.  But before that, please check your pants for soilage.

Injury Report.....
Weakside linebacker Eric Johnson suffered a sprained left knee.  He will be
out for 4 to 6 weeks.
