Hype Before The Game......
The Missouri Sports Information
Office actually started the hype long before the season started by limiting
the sale of tickets to the Nebraska Cornhusker. The idea is to have
as many Tiger's fans and as little Cornhusker's fans as possible at the
game. Those Husker's fan that already purchased tickets were told
that their seats were no longer available and their money will be refunded.
However, if they still wants to go to the game they can purchase a ticket
(and get this) and sit on a hill outside the stadium. Imagine that!
My question to them was; Who is going to pay for my proctologist bill after
the game? The week leading into the game, the Missouri players were
full of confidence that this is their year to beat the Cornhusker.
I wondered where they got that idea from; poor disillusional Tigers.
Could it be that they played us tough the last two years? Home field
advantage? What is it? Let me know 'cause inquiring mind wants
to know.
Quote of The Game.......
"They run option football and we
acted like we never seen the damned thing before," Missouri Coach Larry
Smith.

Missouri - "The Show Me State"; Yes, we show them all right. We showed them how to run the option. We showed them that the Nebraska's running game is well and alive. We showed them how to play smash-mouth football. We showed them our defense is still one of the best in the country. The Nebraska Cornhusker dominated both sides of the ball. We control the line of scrimmage for most part of the game. Their only TD came at the expense of our 2nd string defense late in the game. Their field goal was off a fumble by our I-Back(Correll Buckhalter). The Nebraska offensive line was clicking on all four cylinders. Game calling by coach Solich was excellent. At times the Mizzou defense looked confused (see 'quote of the game' comment). The Blackshirts as usual played a stellar game (see 'the stats'). Our first score came on a safety 1 min 47 sec into the game. Next score came on a 7 yard pass from Eric Crouch to Matt Davison with 5:48 left in the 1st quarter. Eric Crouch closed out the quarter with a 31 yards run to make the score 16-0. On the 2nd qtr., both teams traded field goals. 3rd qtr. is all Nebraska. Bobby Newcombe was the recipient of a pass from Eric Crouch that went 53 yards. Who said Nebraska can't pass? The only other score on the 3rd qtr. is a 10 yards run by 2nd string I-Back Correll Buckhalter. The 4th qtr. saw both teams traded a pair of TDs. Nebraska scored first on a 4 yards run by I-Back Dan Alexander with 9:51 left on the game clock. Travis Garvin caught a 26 yards pass from the Tiger's QB with 2:13 left in the game to make the final score 40-10.
Injury Report.....
Rush end Kyle Vanden Bosch sustained
a sprained ankle. He is expected to play this week. Fullback Ben
Kingston had a strained calf muscle. He might have to sit out a game.
The Stats.....
Nebraska defense had 10 tackles
for losses, 1 interception, 5 QB sacks, and 5 passes broken up.
